LAID TO REST

Lena Jeppesen, the subject of this sketch, was born in Denmark on the 16th day of February, 1838. She was confirmed in the faith of the Lutheran church while yet quite young. All through life she has stood firm in that belief.

On the 28th day of October, 1863, she was married to Peter Jeppesen, and in 1872 they resolved to try their fortunes in America, the same year found them in Omaha, Nebr. After a short sojourn in that city they moved on the farm near Kennard, Neb. where they resided until the spring of 1899, having endeared themselves in the esteem and affections of their friends and neighbors and by hard labor, frugality had accumulated considerable property, they resolved to retire from active farm life, and leaving the old farm in charge of their son Andrew, whose sad death is still fresh in our minds, they moved to Blair, Neb., where her death occurred at 10 o’clock p.m. on the 30th day of April, 1909. Mrs. Jeppesen was suffering from asthma for a long time. A few days before her death pneumonia threatened and was the immediate cause of her death.

Lena Jeppesen will live long in the memory of the multitude of friends she possessed for her many noble virtues. There were born to her 7 children, 6 of whom have gone before and there remains one child, Mrs. H. C. Drevsen, a widowed daughter-in-law, Mrs. Andrew Jeppesen, a brother, Soren Jensen, two sisters, Mrs. J. A. Frahm, ten grandchildren and Mrs. E. Jorgensen, three half brothers and above all a lonely, loving husband who mourn their irreparable loss. May the dear Lord, the Father of us all, comfort them in their great sorrow. The departed was 71 years, 2 months and 2 days old.

“It is not death to die,
To leave this weary road,
And midst the brotherhood on high
To be at home with God.”

The funeral services were held at the M.E. church in Kennard, Rev. A. F. Schafer officiating. The casket was banked with lovely flowers. At the close of the services a large concourse of sympathizing friends and relatives followed the remains to the Kennard cemetery.
