#1-24 Mar., 1909 - The Pilot - Lauritz “Lewis” Larson

Louie Larson, who lived on the Sena Jacobson farm out near Kennard, was helping Chris Sorenson put hay in the loft of his barn with a hay fork last Friday. He was driving the horse and one tug broke, allowing the singletree to come back and strike him in the bowels, tearing them so badly that death occurred Monday morning. The funeral was held at the home yesterday. He leaves a wife and six small children, with little property and not a cent in the way of insurance to help care for them. Mrs. Larson’s parents live in the old country and we understand she will go back to them as soon as possible.

#2-26 Mar., 1909 - Kennard Enterprise - Lewis Larsen

Last Friday while Mr. Lewis Larsen, who lives on the Jacobsen place two miles east of town, was assisting Mr. Chris Sorensen unload some hay by pulling it up with a hay fork, one of the tugs broke and the end of the singletree struck Mr. Larsen in the abdomen. Drs. Pruner and Stewart were called, and they at once called a surgeon, Dr. Dwyer, assisted by Dr. W. H. Pruner, Jr., of Omaha, who operated on him and found the bowels so badly injured that it was utterly impossible for the injured man to recover. He lived only thirty one hours after the accident. This is indeed a very sad affair as he had a wife and six small children and but limited means. Funeral services were held at the Danish church Monday afternoon, Rev. Andersen of Blair officiating. The little edifice was crowded with sympathizing friends and neighbors. After the services an unusually large concourse of people followed the remains to the Kennard cemetery. during the afternoon the sum of $200.00 was contributed and turned over to the bereaved wife.
