1 Feb., 1904 - The Pilot - Mary Schmidt

Mrs. Mary Schmidt of Calhoun, mother of Carl and Christina Schmidt, died at the home of her son Thursday evening, and was buried in the Calhoun cemetery Saturday afternoon. The old lady, had she lived till February 15, would have been eighty six years old. Some fourteen years ago she lost her sight and has since been a patient sufferer from the inconvenience. On Tuesday she suffered from a stroke of paralysis, which resulted fatally. She has enjoyed unusual good health for a woman of her age, and on January 7th attended the marriage of her granddaughter, Mary Schmidt to Fritz Jahnal, and delivered a very eloquent address to the assembled guests. She came to Nebraska with her family in 1869, and 1872 removed to Calhoun township where she has since resided. Thirty four years ago her husband, Max J. Schmidt, who was then railroading, was killed by being run over by a Union Pacific train near Columbus, and since that time she has devoted her life to her children. She was a good neighbor and a kind mother and enjoyed the highest esteem of all who knew her.
