14 June, 1905 - The Pilot - Delinda Wolcott Cook

Mrs. Delinda Wolcott Cook died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. A. P. Howes June 7th, 1905 after an illness of only a few weeks. She was the daughter of Elias Howe and Lorans Wolcott, and was a descendant of the Pilgrim Father, her father was a descendant of Peregrine White who was born on board the Mayflower in Cape Cod harbor and was the first white male child born in America. Mrs. Cook was born in Washington county, Ohio December 9th, 1830, and was seventy four years and six months old at the time of her death. She was married to Wesley Cook of Marietta, Ohio October 12, 1846. They went to Kentucky to live and at the beginning of the Civil War she returned to Ohio and in 1865 moved with her husband and children to Iowa. In 1884 they came to Blair where she has since made her home. She had a family of eleven children of whom seven survive her, twenty four grandchildren and ten great grandchildren. She was attended by all her children but one, and he, John W. Cook, was in California and unable to come. The services were conducted by Rev. Marsh and singing by Miss Edith Foley. She was buried June 9th by the side of her husband who died June 21st, 1888. The following children were with her: Mrs. Litha Goodall of Mont Clair, New Jersey; Mrs. Lillian Steven of Willamette, Illinois; Mrs. Grant Ellsworth of Libertyville, Illinois; Orlow Cook of Salt Lake City, Utah; Wallace Cook of Fairfield, Nebraska; and Mrs. A. P. Howes of Blair, Nebraska.
