13 Mar., 1902 - The Pilot - Mr. and Mrs. Sheridan Craig’s Baby Boy

Sheridan Craig and wife, now of Tekamah, had a dear little baby boy born here at the home of her foster parents, Thomas Gilbert and wife, and they were so proud of it - one girl and a boy. But death came in about two weeks, and parents and foster parents are suffering with grief. The babe was buried March 4, 1902 in the Ft. Calhoun, Nebraska cemetery. A short service was held at Mr. Gilbert’s by the writer, Mrs. Pettingill, Misses Gretchen Schwager, Jessie Jipp and Bertha Bauman kindly sang and neighbors very kindly sent beautiful flowers. We are requested to thank all the neighbors and friends for kindnesses. When the choir gave out the hymn “Shall We Gather at the River’, we were reminded that when we officiated at the grave of this dear babe’s great grandmother thirty one years ago the same hymn was sung, and of those ten who composed the choir two or three lie in this cemetery, one is living in another county, three we believe are in Oregon and at least one is in California. Pioneer Allen Craig, the child’s grandfather, remarked: “Mr. Woods, a great many graves have been made here since mother died in 1871”.
