#1-24 Feb., 1902 - The Pilot - Dr. S. J. Hadley

Dr. S. J. Hadley, formerly of Arlington, died at his late home in Hot Springs, So. Dakota last Wednesday. The remains were brought to Arlington Thursday bur burial. The funeral was held from the home of W. S. Hadley last Friday. Dr. Hadley was an old and highly respected resident of the county, and for may years had an extensive practice in and about Arlington.

Dr. S.J. Hadley died at his home in Hot Springs, S.D. on Feb. 19, 1902, at 5 o’clock p.m. aged 65 years and 5 months.

Sherman J. Hadley was born in Knox County Ohio, September 19, 1836. He was married to Susan J. Bull March 23, 1857, at Lexington, Richland County, Ohio where he lived until the year 1860 when he moved to Albion, Noble County, Ind. In October, 1879, he, in company with his family moved to Arlington, then known as Bell Creek, where Mrs. Hadley died on June 21 1898, and where he lived until last November, when owing to ill health, he sold his property and moved with his family to Hot Springs, S.D. in hopes of benefiting his health. He was married to Mrs. M.E. Miller in Arlington on October 7, 1899. Dr. Hadley was a gentleman well known and highly respected throughout this part of the state and his death means not only the loss of a kind husband and loving father to the wife and children, but it means the loss to the country of one of her best citizens and one whose place in the hearts of his friends will be hard to fill. The funeral services were conducted by Rev. Amos Fetzer at the home of W.J. Hadley in this city at 10 o’clock Friday forenoon and the remains were laid to rest by the side of the wife of his youth. He leaves besides a large circle of friends, two sons, William J. Hadley of Arlington and Dr. J.E. Hadley of Cedar Bluffs, Nebr. The bereaved family has the sympathy of the entire community in this their affliction.
