24 Feb., 19022 - The Pilot - Annie I. (Rottman) Schmidt Mrs. Annie I. Schmidt died at the home of her son, William Schmidt, in Arlington, Neb. on Monday, Febr. 17, aged 70 years, 3 months and 4 days. Annie I. Rottman was born in the Province of West Phalen, Germany November 13, 1831. She came to America in the early 50’s and settled in Cincinnati where she was married to J. H. Schmidt. Mr. and Mrs. Schmidt remained in Cincinnati until the spring of 1869 when they moved to a farm one and one half miles northeast of Arlington where Mr. Schmidt died on December 25, 1895. Shortly after the death of her husband, Mrs. Schmidt took up her residence with her son, William, in Arlington, with whom she lived up to the time of her death. Mrs. Schmidt was a member of the German Lutheran church, having been confirmed when about 14 years of age, and during her long and useful life was a devout church worker, and died happy in the faith of a glorious hereafter. The funeral services were conducted by Rev. J. Hilgendorf at her late residence Thursday at 11 o’clock a.m. and at the German Lutheran church at 12:30 p.m. Interment in the German Lutheran cemetery. The funeral was attended by a large number of sorrowing friends who called to pay their last respects to the one whom they loved and respected in life. She leaves, besides her many friends, six children to mourn the loss of a kind and loving mother: Henry, William and George of Arlington, Edward of Arapahoe, Mrs. Emma Echtenkamp of Wayne, and Miss Louise of Arlington, who have the heartfelt sympathy of the entire community in their sad bereavement.
