27 May, 1901 - The Pilot - H. E. Meservey

The pioneer citizens of Washington county will regret to learn of the death of Mr. H. E. Meservey, which occurred at his home in Blair last Friday afternoon at 1:00 o’clock. Thursday he was around in his usual health and visited with the family in the evening. At 5:00 in the morning he was stricken with apoplexy and never again recovered consciousness. He was born in Appleton, Maine in 1836, and with his wife and one child moved to Nebraska in 1867, settling in Sheridan precinct, Washington county. Here he lived until 1883 when he removed to Blair, living here continuously ever since. He was one of the oldest settlers in Sheridan precinct and for a number of years was postmaster there. The family consists of a wife and four children, Misses Emma and Julia and Arthur Meservey and Miss Edna Davis. Dr. Arthur Meservey is practicing dentistry in Kearney, Nebraska, but had reached him Thursday for a short visit. Miss Emma is a teacher in the Fremont schools, but did not arrive at home until Friday afternoon. As immediate relatives he leaves a sister, Mrs. C. B. Sprague of Blair, and a brother, O. Meservey of Fremont. The funeral services took place yesterday from the residence at 2 p.m., and was largely attended by old neighbors and friends. The floral offerings were many and beautiful, the casket being completely covered. The Pilot joins with the host of friends of the bereaved family in extending heartfelt sympathy.
