11 Apr., 1901 - The Pilot - Mary Elizabeth (Bovee) Loftis

The death of Mrs. Caleb Loftis occurred Friday, April 5. Deceased was the second daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Nelson Bovee, and was born in Wayne county, Illinois fifty years ago. Her early life was spent there and in 1871 she was married to Caleb Loftis. A year later they came to Washington county and have lived here ever since. Eleven children were born to them, three of them having preceded their mother to the better land. Mrs. Loftis became a Christian in early life and has always been a faithful member of the Methodist church, rarely missing a service, and by her precepts and example, leading her children to give their lives to Christ. Her last illness was of about three weeks’ duration and was caused by rheumatism, which was followed by other complications. All that loving care and attention could do for her was done, but it was not God’s will to spare her. The funeral services were conducted Sunday by Rev. Gammon of Herman, assisted by Revs. Elliot and Patrick, and interment took place in the New England cemetery. The grief-stricken family have the sympathy of a host of friends.
