4 Mar., 1901 - The Pilot - Sarah J. (Young) Bassett

Mrs. S. M. Bassett of Orum died Wednesday afternoon at four o’clock. The funeral services were held at Rose Hill church Friday afternoon. The services were conducted by Rev. J. F. Poucher of Tekamah. A large congregation of friends were present testifying to her work and expressing sympathy with the sorrowing family.

The obituary of Mrs. S. M. Bassett, which arrived too late for Monday’s issue, we print today. Sarah J. Young was born in Montgomery county, Ill. Dec 6. 1856, and at the age of nine years came to Nebraska with her father’s family. In the fall of 1876 she was married to S. M. Bassett, from which union six children are left to mourn for a devoted mother and wife. Mrs. Bassett possessed a true Christian character, which was always manifest. She departed this life surrounded by relatives and near friends on February 27. The funeral took place Friday from the Rose Hill church, Rev. John Poucher of Tekamah officiating.
