Etta H. (Tharp) Brink
Died on 10/1/1909

17 Nov., 1909 - The Pilot - Etta (Tharp) Brink

Mrs. Etta Brink, daughter of James and Anna Tharp, was born in Washington county, Nebr. on Jan. 9, 1873, and died Oct. 1, 1909 at her home in Mesa, a pretty little town situated among the mountains of western Colorado. Her parents lived in this vicinity about twenty five years, having been among the early settlers here. The family is well remembered by many in this community. In February, 1886, she became a Christian and with her sisters, Eva and Lora, joined the Baptist church in this city, and throughout the remainder of her life was known as an earnest Christian, scattering sunshine all along her way.

In 1892 she went with her parents to Naponee, Neb., where she made her home. The last three years of her residence there she lived with her brothers, Stewart, Oscar and Ralph, and in 1902 went with them to Idaho, where they lived very happily together until Jan. 18, 1906 when she married Mr. A. G. Brink and went with him to his mountain home in Mesa where she spent the remainder of her life, and the friendly and unselfish characteristics of her nature won for her the love and respect of all who knew her.

She took an active part in all the church and Sunday school work, teaching a large class of girls, through whom the church was very beautifully decorated with vines, house plants and cut flowers and covered her casket with sweet peas that scented the room with their fragrant aroma. Then while “Nearer My God to Thee” was softly sung they marched around the open grave and dropped into it their last floral tribute.

The friends and neighbors of the little valley were very kind and thoughtful in their demonstrations of sympathy, and left nothing undone that could be done to soften the blow to the bereaved ones, or tend to make the service a tribute of love and honor to her whose Christian life had shed its influence among them.

She leaves a husband, a mother, four brothers and four sisters to mourn her departure: A. G. Brink, Mesa, Colo.; Mrs. Anna Tharp, Ellensburg, Wash.; Mrs. Mina Miner, Ferry Point, Canada; Stewart and Ralph Tharp, Gooding, Idaho; Mrs. Lora Croley, Mesa, Colo.; a younger sister and bosom companion during her residence in the mountain valley, they both loved so much; Oscar Tharp, Quincy, Ill.; Wallace and Elna Tharp, Ellensburg, Wash.; and her twin sister, Mrs. Eva Polly, Naponee, Neb. She was a cousin of W. H. Hill and Mrs. L. P. VanLiew of this city.
