13 Oct., 1909 - The Pilot - Fern Ballard

After a brave struggle to live this mortal life we all cling to so firmly, Fern Ballard passed quietly out into the spirit life last Saturday afternoon, where sickness and sorrow cannot come. Last February the doctors told him he had tuberculosis of the lungs and urged him to go west. He went out to Whitney and stayed with his aunt for a time, but the dread disease had fast hold upon him and he came back soon to succumb to it. The funeral was held at the home of his father, Mr. John Ballard, at 3 o’clock Monday, Rev. A. L. Ogden officiating. Fern was only eighteen years of age the 29th of August. He was a bright, clean, manly fellow and the entire community join in extending sympathy to the bereaved family. Besides the father he leaves two sisters, Ethel and Hazel, who live at home.
