Mahala M. McKercher died at her home near Lincoln, Nebraska Thursday afternoon, January 7th, 1909. She was born at Greenville, Kentucky June 1st, 1834 and was 74 years, 6 months and 6 days old. She was married to John McKercher at Mount Sterling, Illinois Nov. 14, 1863, and came to Nebraska in the fall of 1867, living on a homestead ten miles north of Blair for a number of years. Later she moved to this city where she made her home for some fifteen years, after which the family moved to Lincoln where they have resided for the past six years. She had an attack of pneumonia three years ago and since that time has been an invalid, fifteen months of the time being bedfast. In young womanhood she became a Christian and through her long illness never a murmur of complaint was known to pass her lips. She is survived by two sons and two daughters who live at the family home, and by three stepsons who live in Washington county.
