Another Washington county pioneer gone. She was the mother of Pat McCarthy, formerly of Coffman, where she lived with her family when we came to Ft. Calhoun. We clipped the following from the World Herald of Jan. 27: “Mrs. Johanna McCarthy, aged 85 years, one of Omaha’s oldest settlers, passed away Friday night at the home of her daughter, Mrs. M. H. Gentleman, 1734 South Twenty sixth street paralysis being the cause of death. She came to Omaha November 1, 1854. She leaves two sons, P.C. and Michael McCarthy of Omaha; four daughters, Mrs. H. B. Franklin and Mrs. M. H. Gentleman of Omaha; Mrs. D P. Ryan of Florence and Mrs. F. Ketchmark of Spaulding, Neb. The funeral will be held Monday morning from the residence of Mrs. Gentleman to St. Peter’s church. Twenty eighty and Leavenworth streets. Interment will be made at St. Mary’s cemetery, South Omaha."
