14 Nov., 1906 - The Pilot - Caroline Baxter

The sad news of the death of Mrs. Caroline Bater reached this city last Friday, and was a severe shock to the many friends of the family who only a few weeks before had seen her enjoying exceptionally good health. The Tuesday before her death Mrs. Baxter was taken slightly ill, but thought nothing of the matter until Thursday afternoon at which time she was compelled to take to her bed when she became suddenly worse. The end came at three o’clock the next morning, Nov. 12th, which was 18 days before the 70th anniversary of the date of her birth. The cause of her death was hardening of the liver. The funeral services were held at Johnston Sunday morning, and the body shipped to Blair where it was laid to rest the same evening by the side of her husband whose death occurred three years ago last July. Mrs. Baxter leaves to mourn her loss six children: three boys, Frank, Ed and Al and three daughters, Mrs. Martha Slaughter, Mrs. J. W. Wulf, both of Los Angeles, Cal., and Miss Edna, all of whom have the sincere sympathy of many friends and neighbors. Mrs. Baxter was a Christian woman, and the good deeds of a long and useful life stand as an enduring monument to her memory. She was born in Madison county Indiana, but spent the larger part of her life in maturity in Nebraska. Those of the family who were not present at the funeral were Mrs. Wulff, who for several years has been a resident of California and Mrs. Martha Slaughter, who only two weeks ago moved to Los Angeles.
