#1-8 June, 1910 - The Tribune - Laura L. (Cowles) Newell

Mrs. J. A. Newell died at her home near Blair Wednesday morning, June 1, 1910 after a long illness. She had been an invalid for the past thirty years. Laura L. Cowles was born in Witingham, Vt. Sept. 13, 1841, and was married to J. A. Newell Dec. 9, 1866. They lived in Vermont until 1885 when they came to Blair. They later moved to Wheeler county, Neb., and then to Kansas, returning to Blair several years ago. She leaves a husband and three grown children, Mrs. G. W. Blanchard of Herman and Forrest and Kate of Blair to mourn her loss. The funeral was held at 10 o’clock Saturday, and interment made in Blair cemetery.

#2-8 June, 1910 - The Pilot - Laura L. (Cowles) Newell

Mrs. J. A. Newell died last Wednesday, and the funeral was held at the farm home west of town at 10 o’clock last Saturday morning, Rev. C. P. Lang officiating. She had been ill for many years with slow consumption, but finally succumbed in her 69th year, having been born in Whitingham, Vt. Sept. 13, 1841. She was married Dec. 9th, 1866 to J A. Newell and three children were born them. Forrest F. and Kate D., who live at home, and Mrs. Cora B. Blanchard, who lives on a farm near Herman. They came to this state in 1885, and with the exception of two years spent in Kansas, this has been their home since that time. J. A. Newell is the oldest brother of J. W. Newell and Mrs. Lydia Selden of this city, M. D. Newell, who lives on farm west of town and Mrs. Mattie Davis of Omaha, all of whom were present at the funeral.
