Mary Jane Nichols was born December 3, 1841. Died 11:45 a.m. Friday, May 27, 1910, age 68 years, 5 months and 24 days. She was married to John Lochlin Tracy January 6, 1859 at Portsmouth, Ohio. This union was blessed with thirteen children, eight girls and five boys. The deceased leaves a husband and seven children to mourn her death: Mrs. J. L. Edwards and Mrs. Frank Dixon of Blair, Mrs. E. L. Cain, Mrs. Bandal and J G. and W. G. Tracy of Omaha, and Mrs. U. S. Cain of Brooklyn, Iowa, all of whom were present at the funeral. Mrs. Tracy united with the Methodist Episcopal church immediately after her marriage and affiliated with that church until about ten years ago when she transferred her membership to the Free Methodist church, and was faithful to the cause until her death. She moved with her husband and family from Ohio to Mr. Pleasant, Iowa in May, 1862, and resided there until March, 1882 when the family came to Blair, and has made her home here until her death.

Mrs. J. L. Tracy died at 11:45 last Friday morning after an illness lasting since last December. On Tuesday she suffered a stroke of apoplexy and was unconscious from that time until the worn out body gave way and her brave spirit was set free. The funeral services were held at the Methodist church at 2 o’clock Sunday afternoon and was largely attended. J. G. Riley of Omaha, a former pastor of the deceased, preached the funeral sermon, being assisted in the services by Rev. Lang. Interment was made in the family lot in the Blair cemetery by the side of two daughters, Mary and Mrs. Grant Miller, who passed over before her. Mary Jane Nichols was born at Jacktown, Ohio Dec. 3, 1841 and was therefore 68 years, 5 months and 24 days old. She was married at Portsmouth to John Lochlin Tracy on Jan. 6, 1859, and the union was blessed with thirteen children, seven of whom are left to mourn her departure from this life, Mrs. J. L. Edwards and Mrs. Frank Dixon of this city, Mrs. Ed. L. Cain, Mrs. A. H. Bandle, J. G. and W. G. Tracy of Omaha, and Mrs. U. S. Cain of Brooklyn, Ia., all of whom were present to attend the funeral services. She moved with her husband and family from Ohio to Mt. Pleasant, Ia. in May, 1865, and to this city in March, 1882, this being their home ever since. Deceased united with the Methodist Episcopal church shortly after her marriage, and about ten years ago she transferred her membership to the Free Methodist church. She was an earnest and faithful Christian wife and mother, ever striving to do the best she knew how. The entire community join in heartfelt sympathy for the bereaved husband and family.
