Survived by wife, Marilyn Kay; daughter, Mindi Laaker of Bennington; son, Martin Miles of Omaha; 3 grandsons; stepfamily, Terri Stevens of Dallas Center, IA; Michael Martin of Clarksville, TN; 7 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren; brothers-in-law, Ken Sass; George (Sherry) Haidsiak of Iowa; and sister-in-law, Carolyn (Gary) Williams of Kansas.

Gerald Leroy Miles was born on January 30, 1937 in Fremont, Nebraska to Donald and Aileen (Pope) Miles. He grew up in Bennington, attending grade school and graduating from Bennington High School in 1955. In school, Jerry was active in Basketball and Track and participated in the school play. Soon after high school he enlisted in the United States Navy in hopes of “seeing the world” but he never left the states.

Jerry married Judy Nelson in 1958 in Omaha and they were blessed with two children: Mindi and Martin. They made their home in Bennington. In 1990, Jerry married Kay Martin in Las Vegas, Nevada and they continued to live in Bennington until moving to their acreage north of Bennington.

Jerry worked with his father at Miles Lumber before starting Apollo Concrete, one of many businesses he ran including – Apollo Mini-storage, a grocery store, car wash, laundromat, apartments and a saw shop. Jerry had a great sense of humor, a big smile and loved to laugh. He was funny, helpful and ornery. Jerry loved to work in the shop and mow his acreage. He savored fried chicken and a cold Cherry Dr. Pepper.

Jerry passed away on January 20, 2021 in Brownsville, Texas at the age of 83 years, 11 months and 21 days. He was preceded by parents Don & Aileen Miles, Sister Judy Sass; Survived by Wife Marilyn Kay; daughter Mindi Laaker of Bennington; Son Martin Miles of Omaha; 3 grandsons; Step-family Terri (Troy) Stevens of Dallas Center, IA; Michael (Teri) Martin of Clarksville, TN; 7 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren; Brother-in-law Ken Sass; Brother-in-law George (Sherry) Haidsiak of Iowa and sister-in-law Carolyn (Gary) Williams of Kansas.
