Sara Alice Huffman was born at Savannah, Missouri on Dec. 31, 1865 and died Feb. 18, 1950 at 10:00 a.m. at the Good Shepherd Home in this city.

On Nov. 9, 1883 she was married to Frank S. Bigelow at King City, Missouri and in 1887 they came to Nebraska settling near Atkinson where they farmed.

Here they were living when the state experienced the blizzard of 1888. Soon after this they moved to Blair.

Seven children were born to them, two of whom are still living, Mrs. Ed Wolff of Blair and Mrs. Fred Nemetz of Venice, California. Also eight grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren survive.

The husband died in 1929 and Mrs. Bigelow later remarried but the husband lived but a short time when he too passed away.

Mrs. Bigelow was a member of the Christian Church in Blair and took an active part in its duties. She was a level minded woman with a kindly disposition that made her many close friends.

She has one sister living at Pueblo, Colo., who is now 89 years of age and this the only living member left of the family.

Funeral services were held Monday afternoon from the Bendorf Funeral Home with Rev. H. C. Jorgensen officiating and interment was made in the Blair cemetery. Mrs. Fred Nemetz, a daughter, arrived from California in time to see her mother before her death and was here for the funeral rites.

Deceased was a past member of the Rebekah Lodge and the Relief Corps.

BLAIRITE, 84, DIES HERE

MRS. SARAH JOHNSTON DIES; MOTHER OF MRS. NEMETZ AND MRS. ED WOLFF

Mrs. Sarah Johnson, 84, who came to Blair 62 years ago and had resided here most of the intervening years, dies Saturday at 10 a.m. at Lutheran Good Shepherd Home here after a lengthy illness.

She was the mother of Mrs. Mary Nemetz of Venice, Calif., who is currently visiting her, and Mrs. Ed Wolff of Blair.

The funeral was held at 1 p.m. Monday at the Bendorf Funeral Home. The Rev. H. C. Jorgensen of First Lutheran Church officiated, and burial followed in Blair Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Max Bain, Dewey Nemetz, C.E. Krause, Frank Wolff Sr., Leth Nielsen and Don Jones.

Sarah Alice Huffman was born Dec. 31, 1865, at Savannah, Mo., where as a young woman she was married to Frank Bigelow. Mr. and Mrs. Bigelow came to Blair in 1888 and resided here many years. Later, after Mr. Bigelow’s death in 1930, she was married to Bert Johnston at Orchard, Nebr. Mr. Johnston died several years later.

Surviving the aged Blairite are her two daughters, Mrs. Mary Nemetz of Venice, Calif., and Mrs. Ed Wolff (Erma) of Blair, and eight grandchildren. Grandchildren living in Blair are Dewey Nemetz, Mrs. Max Bain and Mrs. Leth Nielsen (nee Dorothy Jones). There are 12 great-grandchildren. A surviving sister is Mrs. Victoria Biggs, 89, of Pueblo, Colo.

Mrs. Johnston was preceded in death by a daughter, Mrs. Don Jones (Ethel Bigelow); also a daughter, Mrs. Jones’ twin sister, and a son.
