10 Feb., 1921 - The Tribune - Thomas Sinclair Heck

EARLY RESIDENT OF BLAIR DIES AT LONG PINE, NEBR. Word reaches Blair of the death of Tom Heck, which occurred at Long Pine a week ago Tuesday after a lingering illness which extended over the past year. It had been known for some time that his life was in the balance, but nevertheless, when the news of his passing spread over Long Pine, his many friends were grievously shocked.

Mr. Heck will be remembered by many of the old residents of Blair, having been employed here at one time on the old Blair Times, owned at that time by Vic Lantry and others. He later went to railroading and moved with his family to Long Pine in 1881, where he resided and took an active part in civic affairs until his death. The funeral was held last Thursday under Masonic auspices, and the stores and the business houses were closed from 1 to 4 o’clock in commemoration of the respect in which he was held.

Thomas Sinclair Heck was born at Chambersburg, Pa. July 13, 1850, and passed away at Long Pine, Nebr. February 1, 1921, aged seventy years, 6 months and 18 days. He was married on May 13, 1876 to Ellen Thompson at Blair, Nebr. He came to Council Bluffs, Iowa in 1869 where he followed his trade as a printer. Later, in 1870, he moved to Blair, Nebr., and in 1881 went to railroading. He was a pensioner of the Chicago & Northwestern railroad, having worked for them over 30 years. He is survived by his wife, his only daughter, Mrs. P. W. Murphy of Norfolk, a brother, Frank S. of Long Pine and a brother, George S. and a sister, Mrs. M. C. Adams of Waynesboro, Pa.
