S.S. DIXON, 74, ARLINGTON, DIES

BROTHER OF THE LATE ASA DIXON SR. OF BLAIR WAS BURIED SUNDAY

S.S. “Vet” Dixon, 74, of Arlington, brother of the late Asa Dixon Sr., 90, of Blair, died at his home there Friday following an extended illness. Resident of Arlington more than 50 years, he was a barber. His brother, Asa, once a prominent Blair real estate dealer, died February 22 in Los Angeles.

Sylvester S. Dixon was born at Newton, Iowa in 1863, and came to Arlington as a young man. He was married November 4, 1887, to Miss Rachel Warrick of Blair.

She survives, as do two sons, Kenneth Dixon of Canada and Stanley Dixon of Arlington. A daughter, Frieda, died three years ago. Other survivors include a brother, Earl Dixon of Omaha, six grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held Sunday at 2:30 p.m. at the Methodist Episcopal church in Arlington, the Rev. Ralph P. Rasmussen in charge. Mrs. Dixon, an invalid, was unable to attend the rites. Pallbearers were Leo and Harold Weber, Jack Scheer, Art Johnson, Alfred Baker and Clyde Hindmarsh. Burial was in Arlington cemetery.

Sylvester S. Dixon was born in Newton, Iowa July 31, 1863 and passed away at his home Friday morning, March 19th. He came to Nebraska with his parents in 1865 and lived on a farm north of Blair for several years. He was married to Rachel Warrick on November 4, 1887 and they moved to Arlington in 1892 where Mr. Dixon operated a barber shop for 45 years.

Mr. Dixon loved to hunt and also spent a great deal of time during the summer months in his garden in which he took great pleasure.

He is survived by his wife, two sons, Stanley of Arlington and Kenneth of Tompkins, Sask. Canada, one brother, Earl of Omaha and six grandchildren. A daughter, Freda passed away three years ago.

Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon at the Methodist Church with Rev. Ralph P. Rasmussen officiating. Mrs. Alvin Anderson and Miss Marian Menking sang two duets, “The Old Rugged Cross” and “Abide With Me.”. Pallbearers were Harold Weber, Jack Scheer, Arthur Johnson, Leo Weber, Clyde Hindmarch and Alfred Baker. Interment was made in the Arlington cemetery.

Out of town relatives who attended the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. Norman Warrick and family, Mrs. Neum Warrick and family, Mr. and Mrs. John Compton and Mr. and Mrs. Gifford Dixon all of Blair, Wallace Dixon of Tekamah, Mr. and Mrs. Walter Jones of Omaha, Mr. and Mrs. Gordon Pflug of Valley.
