John Henry Schafersman passed away at the family home in Norfolk June 13, 1921 at 4:50 p.m., having suffered for two years from internal cancer.

The subject of this sketch was born at Quincy, Ill. November 28, 1856, and came with his parents to Washington county in 1868 where he grew to manhood. He was married August 31, 1892 to Ida Fuhlrodt. Five children were born to them, four sons and one daughter. The daughter and one son have preceded their father to the better world. Three sons, Oscar, Herbert and Irving, all live at Norfolk. Besides these and the widow, there survives him three brothers, Wm. Schafersman of Blair, Ed Schafersman of Telbasta and George Schaftersman of Stoneham, Colo. There are also two sisters, Mrs. August Carleson of Dale and Miss Paulena Schafersman of Pasadena, Calif.

The funeral was held at Norfolk on Wednesday, June 15, the Odd Fellows having entire charge of the services, after which the body was conveyed to Wisner where burial took place.

Mr. Schaftersman underwent an operation the very first of the year, and since that time has been growing rapidly worse and suffering intensely until death came to his relief.

Wm. Schafersman, his brother, who was with him when the end came, returned to Blair Tuesday afternoon, and on Wednesday, with his wife and daughter, Opal, drove to Wisner to attend the last obsequies.
