WILLIAM DUNCAN

William Duncan, whose body was brought from a Lincoln hospital to Ft. Calhoun after a number of years spent in Florence, and was buried beside his wife in our city cemetery November 4, 1921 by his Masonic brethren, for several years ran the blacksmith shop now owned by Henry Schmidt, was our neighbor for several years and planted the orchard now owned by Harry Walton on the premises where his wife died and his only daughter was married. She was a teacher in the Green school house before going west. Duncan was the first person who saw the fire when my house burned in April, 1899, and we have a valuable piece of furniture he gave us after he helped other citizens build us a new house. He was rated as a number one smith and was a good neighbor.
