GROVER SHORT GIVES HIS LIFE FOR HIS COUNTRY

Grover Short passed away at the family home in Dexterville on Monday, July 17, at 7 p.m. after a prolonged illness.

This young man was the oldest of Mr. and Mrs. Ras Short, and was born in Blair November 2, 1894, being past 27 years of age at the time of his demise.

While in Glasgow, Mont. he answered the call of his country and served with Co. L. 57 Inf., 90th Division on the Meuse-Argonne front, and with the army of occupation in Germany. He was wounded in the hip by a shell and gassed by mustard gas, and was picked up by the ambulance corps and taken to a hospital where he lay for many weeks.

After his return home in June, 1919, he was very ill and his face and eyes so badly injured that for a time he was in great danger of losing his sight. He was constantly treated by government physicians and others for the gassed condition, but his lungs were so severely damaged that tuberculosis developed which was the ultimate cause of his demise.

Surviving him are his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Ras Short, three brothers, Ben, Emory and Edgar; three sisters, Mrs. Dorothy Plumb of ??????, Mrs. George Mundorf and Myrtle Short of Blair; his grandfather, Jacob Short and his grandmother, Mrs. S. E. Evans also of Blair.

This Thursday morning the flags of Blair were placed at half mast in honor of the deceased hero, and at 2:30 p.m. a large circle of friends gathered at the city hall to witness the last sad rites and look for the last time on the face of another young man who gave his life in defense of the right. The funeral was military in every particular, and was in charge of Stanley E. Hain Post, assisted by the Woman’s Auxiliary and other military orders. Rev. C. M. Foreman gave the funeral address and spoke feelingly upon the life of the young man. The casket was covered by a flag and the floral tributes were many and beautiful. Burial was made in the Blair cemetery.
