REV. DR. ANDREW G. JENSEN, 68

Rev. Dr. Andrew G. Jensen, 68, of Lincoln died Friday, March 2, 2007.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m., Tuesday, March 6, at Our Saviour's Lutheran Church, 1200 South 40th St., Lincoln. A private family interment will be held at Lincoln Memorial Park.

Andrew G. Jensen was born Aug. 29, 1938, in Portland, Maine, to Edwin & Carrie Jensen. He was baptized in September 1939 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Westbrook, Maine, and was confirnmed and ordained in the same church. He was the 18th son of the congregation to be ordained, a number that has risen to over 30 men and women ordained to the ministry from that church.

He graduated from Westbrook High School in 1956. He attended Valparaiso University, Valparaiso, Ind., for one year before transferring to Dana College in Blair. He graduated from Dana in 1960 with a degree in mathematics and physics. He graduated from Wartburg Theological Seminary with a master's of divinity in 1964. He received his doctorate of ministry in 1980 from Luther Northwestern Theological Seminary (consortium).

He served as pastor at Belfield Lutheran, Medora Lutheran, and Dalgum Lutheran, in Belfield, N.D.; was associate pastor at Our Saviour's Lutheran Church in Canby, Minn.; associate pastor at Christ the King Lutheran Church in Mankato, Minn.; associate pastor at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church in Burnsville, Minn.; was senior pastor at Emmanuel Lutheran Church in North Hollywood, Calif.; served in the development department for California Lutheran Homes & Lutheran Social Services of California; was part-time church administrator at The Church of Hope, ELCA, at Canyon Country, Calif.; and in 2002, he retired and moved to Lincoln.

On May 27, 1961, he married Mary E. Halvorson.

He was the developer of the Individualized Confirmation Program and was president of Christian Educational Media, In. (CEM) from 1973-80. With his wife, he authored two books published by Augsburg Publishing House: Audiovisual Idea Book for Churches and Making Your Marriage Work.

He is survived by his wife, Rev. Dr. Mary Jensen of Lincoln; sons and daughters-in-law Daniel and Sheri Jensen of Lincoln; Joel and Julie Jensen of Brooklyn Park, Minn.; and Nathan Jensen of Seattle, Wash.; four grandchildren; sister and brother-in-law, Dorothy and James Anderson of Blair; brother-in-law and wife, Rev. John and Hjordis Halvorson, Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, and Chicago, Ill.; one nephew and two nieces.
