Died on 4/13/1897

Printed in the April 22, 1897 Republican, Blair, Nebraska

Mrs. Josephine M. Perky, wife of Chas. Perky, president of First National Bank of Wahoo, died at her home of cancerous tumor last Tuesday, the 13th. She was the only daughter of Constant Cachelin, deceased, and was an old settler of this county, having come here with her parents in 1856. She was born at Baton Rouge, La. 47 years ago, and at the age of 17 was married to a Mr. Dunn of DeSoto, who lived but a short time after the union. Remaining a widow for nineteen years, she then became the wife of Mr. Perky, which union resulted in the birth of two daughters, one now 8 and the other 12 years of age. Three brothers also survive her, Urbin and George of DeSoto, and Ed, who resides at Spearfish, S.D.

At the request of the deceased, Mrs. Armetta Flowers, of Bethany, a suburb of Lincoln, conducted the funeral service, assisted by Rev. Swan of the M.E. Church of Wahoo. The last sad rites were witnessed by a large concourse of sympathizing friends, almost the entire city turning out. The Eastern Star wing of the Masonic lodge and the ladies’ order of P.O.E. attended in a body.

Her earthly life was an exemplary one, and shows her to have been a devoted wife, loving mother and an earnest promoter of charity.
