Mary Beth Luby, 48

Remembered as a tremendous wife and mother

Mary Beth Luby, 48, of Omaha, died Oct. 5, 2011, at Bergan Mercy Hospital from complications of melanoma.

Funeral services were Oct. 8 at Reichmuth Funeral Home in Elkhorn.

Mary Beth Walter was born Feb. 6, 1963, in Sioux City, Iowa, to Byron and Mary (Bogle) Walter. As a young girl, her family moved around frequently, but settled in Elkhorn where she received most of her schooling and graduated in 1981 before attending Wayne State College for one year. In her school days, she was a champion speller, enjoyed swimming, riding horses and family visits to her paternal grandparents' farm in Rockport, Mo.

On Oct. 5, 1985, she married Joe Luby at the Maplewood Methodist Church in Omaha. The couple made their home in Omaha.

Mrs. Luby worked at Brumko, Tri V, Midwest Select Insurance and, for the past 10 years, at Preferred Professional Insurance Company in Omaha.

She was a woman of many interests. She enjoyed gardening, camping, weekends on the river, painting and reading. She was a Cub Scout leader, supporter for a cure for diabetes, and is remembered as a tremendous wife and mother. She treasured time with her family and friends, big times and small, celebrating family milestones, graduations and weddings, as well as enjoying a beer in her driveway with neighbors. She had a wonderful smile, a contagious laugh and an outgoing, generous nature. She always made the best of any situation, and her family will treasure her memory.

She is survived by her husband, Joe, and son, Sean, of Omaha; parents, Byron and Elaine Walter of St. Charles, Ill.; sisters and brother-in-law, Shelly Kroll and Sam Zarilla of Houston, Texas, and Candace and Dick Franco of Kilmarnock, Va.; brothers and sisters-in-law, Mike and Laura Walter of Raleigh, N.C., and David and Evelyn Sheward of Columbus, Ohio; nieces, Katie (Kroll) Tefft of Austin, and Mandy and Blake (Kroll) Elmer of Houston; nephew, John Walter of Raleigh; uncle, Jack Lewis of Fort Worth, Texas; and many special Luby family members; mother-in-law, Ida Luby of Blair.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Mary (Bogle) Smith; grandparents, Virgil and Ola Walter, and Rendles and Alma Bogle; aunt, Margaret (Bogle) Lewis; and uncle, Roger Bogle.

Memorials are suggested to the American Melanoma Foundation.
