Linda Kay Briggs, age 72, of Herman, passed away peacefully June 25, 2021, at home surrounded by her loving family. She was born on Jan. 28, 1949, in Blair, the daughter of Willus and Bernice Mundorf. She graduated from Blair High School in 1967. She met the love of her life, George Briggs, in 1963 and the couple were married May 4, 1968. Together, they built a beautiful life with three daughters.

Linda served on the Herman Town Board and was a two-term president of the Herman Ladies’ Auxiliary and the Fireman’s wives cub (the Ding-a-Lings). Linda had an unwavering faith in the Lord and enjoyed sharing the gospel and touching lives wherever she could. She loved Jesus and loved her family. She made the best baked goods including chocolate chip cookies and a Danish pastry that was loved by many. She used food as a way to brighten the day (and night) of many souls in need of a little sunshine. In her younger years, she would take food to elderly neighbors or stop by with May baskets, or “just because” treats.

She was born with a heart defect that led to several open-heart surgeries, starting at age 7. She had known sickness all her life and was told that she would never live to see 20 and would never have kids. She proved them all wrong, and time and time again throughout her life she defied the odds. Her life had many unfair struggles, but she was truly a miracle and although no amount of time seems like enough, we were blessed to have had her here for 72 years. Linda was spunky, silly and feisty and had such a strong spirit. The lights of her life were her husband, kids, grandkids, great-grandkids and nieces and nephews. People will remember her as the giver of much guff and the taker of absolutely none, and that she had a “tell it like it is” approach to life. She will be missed beyond measure.

She is survived by her husband George; children: Amy (Scott) Schroeder, Jennifer (Orien) Morrissey; grandchildren: Elise (Michael) Camron, Morgan (fiancé Nate Clark) Schroeder, Riley Schroeder, Spencer Schroeder, Phin and Jax Morrissey; great-grandchildren: Maddox and Blakely Camron; brother Steve (Paula) Mundorf; sister Carol Sparks; niece Stephanie Briggs and many other nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, daughter Melanie, brothers Dennis and Gary Mundorf, and great-grandson Hendryx Camron.

In her final hours, a rainbow appeared in the field just outside her window, and it was a comforting and glorious grand entrance to welcome her to Heaven. Gone from this earth, but never forgotten. One of the last things she said was, “Be happy for me, for I am free.” Her last wishes were that we celebrate her life and cultivate joy in our own lives.
