CHRIS JENSEN DIES AT HOME

IS FOUND DEAD AT HIS HOME SUNDAY AFTERNOON

Chris Jensen was found dead in his bed at his home near the Dana college last Sunday afternoon. Mr. Jensen had been invited to Sunday dinner at the A. Broughton home and when he did not appear for dinner, his body was discovered by Mr. Broughton and Marcus Beck. He had been in good health and was last seen by neighbors at about 8:00 o'clock Saturday evening.

The deceased was born in Vindeby, Denmark, on June 27, 1863, and came to America when he was about nineteen years of age. He worked in Wisconsin for several years as a farm hand and later moved to Chicago where he was married in November, 1892, to Elizabeth Bertelsen. The following year they moved to Blair when Mr. Jensen took a theological course for some time at Dana college but he later took up the painting and decorating trade which he followed up until his death. Mr. Jensen had been a resident of Blair for many years and held a wide acquaintance of friends who thought highly of him.

Surviving him are his bereaved wife, Mrs. Elizabeth Jensen of Lincoln; two sons, Anton H. of Lincoln, who was a member of the Nebraska University faculty for eight years and who has now taken up writing; and Fred W. of the Texas A. and M. school where he is a professor; and a daughter, Mrs. Ethel L. Eckley, of Los Angeles, California. Two sisters, Mrs. Amelia Hansen of Copenhagen, and Mrs. Carrie Olson of Oregon, Wis., and two brothers, Peter Jensen of Wisconsin and Louis Jensen of Denmark also survive.

No definite funeral arrangements have as yet been made. Burial will be in Blair Cemetery.

CHRIS H. JENSEN

Chris H. Jensen was born in Vindeby, Lapland, Denmark June 27, 1863. He came to America in 1882 and to Blair in 1893. Since that time he has made Blair his home.

He was married in November, 1892 in Chicago to Elizabeth Burtelsen, and to this union four children were born, three of whom are still living: Anton H. of Lincoln, Fred W. of Texas and Mrs. Ethyl L. Eckley of Los Angeles, California.

All three children are Blair high graduates and are all in educational work. Anton, who for eight years was on the faculty of the state university, is now devoting his time to writing; Fred is professor of physical chemistry of the Texas A. and M. college and Ethyl is secretary to the superintendent of schools of Los Angeles.

The death of the father was a great shock to the family and friends. On Saturday he went his round of duties, and when the day was over he went to his home and from all appearances had just taken his bath, preparatory to cleaning up after his day’s work. Apparently he was suddenly taken ill and from some unknown cause was stricken. He was found dead on his bed, the water in the bath tub still standing and his usual evening duties not done. From all appearances, the end had come quickly.

The deceased had a host of friends in Blair where he was held in high esteem. Honest and upright in his dealings and conscientious in his work, he was a model well worth emulating.

Besides the wife and three children, he leaves two sisters and three brothers: Mrs. Amilia Hansen, Copenhagen, and Mrs. Carrie Olson, Oregon, Wisconsin; Mr. Louis Jensen, Kastager, Denmark; Peter Jensen, Oregon, Wisconsin and Fred Jensen of Emmons, Minnesota.

At the writing, the time of the funeral ceremonies has not been definitely decided, awaiting the arrival of the daughter from Los Angeles, but it will be held from the Danish Lutheran church of which he was a member, with Rev. N. P. Lang of Chicago and Rev. H. Nielsen of Blair officiating, and interment will be made in the Blair Cemetery.

The pallbearers are to be all old friends of the deceased: N. T. Lund, Ove T. Andersen, Ed Gilbertson, George Kuhr, Jr., Don Stewart and Harold Jorgensen.
