Private services were held. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.

Jon Albert Sedlacek, age 79, of Blair, passed away July 10, 2021, peacefully at his home. Private services were held. A celebration of life will be held at a later date.

Jon is survived by his wife Anne; daughter, Sarah (Pierson) Shields; son, Joe (Denise) Sedlacek; grandchildren, Lucas and Madelyn; sister, Sally Schaffer-Cupp of Chandler, Ariz., and brother Joel (Marsha) Sedlacek.

Jon Albert Sedlacek passed away July 10, 2021. A private memorial service was held at St. Francis Borgia Catholic Church on Tuesday, July 13. Celebration of life will be held on Saturday, Sept. 4, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Big Red Barn on County Road 18, north of Blair.

Jon was born in Fort Dodge, Iowa, to Albert Joseph and Berniece Ricklefs Sedlacek. On the family farm in Pocahontas, Iowa, his responsibilities included milking cows, raising cattle, planting and harvesting corn and soybeans and riding the wild horses his grandfather tamed.

He participated in 4-H and raised a Grand Champion baby calf. Attending Pocahontas schools, he lettered in football, played the trumpet in the band, and was active in student government. In the fall of 1960, he enrolled at Creighton University, where he was a member of Alpha Kappa Psi, business fraternity and earned his BSBA and JD degrees.

Jon began his law career in the Trust Department at the US National Bank in Omaha; then spent a year in Denver as Director of Colorado Business College.

He established a law practice in 1972 in Blair. Jon was a family practice attorney, also serving as city prosecutor for Blair, chairman of the Washington County Mental Health Board and partner in Baronage Real Estate Development.

In 1975, he married Ann Hollander of Omaha. They have two children: Sarah (Pierson) Shields and Joe (Denise) Sedlacek, Lucas and Madelyn. Also surviving is his sister, Sally Schaefer Cupp and Joel Sedlacek (Marsha); sisters-in-law, Janet (Tom) Ferlic and Chris (Ed) Motto and many nieces and nephews.

Jon enjoyed driving his 1974 Oldsmobile convertible around Blair and in many local celebrations. Friends remember him as a gentleman and engaging community member.
