Gene Smith died Aug. 31, 2021, in Blair and was born Nov. 5 1930, in Fort Calhoun.

Gene was preceded in death by parents, Lester and Una Smith; brother, Darrell Smith; brother-in-law, Dennis Mongoven.

He was survived by wife, Kay Smith of Blair; son, Robert (Kristina) Ashley of Fort Calhoun; daughters, Sandy Carter of Fort Calhoun and Shelly Smith of Blair; sisters-in-law, Mary Scott (Charlie Sipe) of Omaha and Gloria Mongoven of Rochester, Minn.,; grandsons, Nicholas and Matthew Miller.

Visitation is 6-8 p.m. Friday, Sept. 3, 2021, at Sievers-Sprick Funeral Home.

Graveside service is private family only. Military Honors conducted by Fort Calhoun American Legion Post #348.

Memorials are suggested to Fort Calhoun Fire and Rescue.
