CARL A. "BEAR" JENSEN JR., 53

Carl A. Jensen Jr., 53, died Sunday, Sept. 11, 2005, at his home in Blair. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Friday, Sept. 16, at Country Bible Church in Blair. Interment with military honors will be at the Blair Cemetery. A luncheon with the family at the church will follow the services. An additional memorial service will be held at a later date for his family and friends in eastern Iowa.

Carl Andrew "Bear" Jensen Jr. was born Jan. 11, 1952, in Clinton, Iowa, to Carl and Elaine (Grimm) Jensen. He graduated from Northeast High School in 1970 and attended Clinton Community College. HE then served in the United States Navy, where he studied nuclear science and was a veteran of the Vietnam War.

He worked for the Omaha Public Power District as an operator at the control room of the Fort Calhoun Nuclear Station.

He was an avid gun collector and was well-known for his handcrafted specialty knives, which he sold to people throughout the world. He enjoyed the outdoors, working in his shop and spending time with his family and pets.

He is survived by his former wife of 24 years, Janie Jensen; son and daughter-in-law, Kourt and Dee Anna Jensen and their three children, who he loved spending time with; stepchildren, Doug Peterson of Lake Worth, Fla., and Desi Downey of Franklinton, La.; sisters and brothers-in-law, Carol and Larry Frees and Emily and Gary Jensen-Karmbeck, all of Wheatland, Iowa, Eileen and Warren Jensen-Burnham of South Glens Falls, N.Y., Patricia King of Calamus, Iowa; five nieces, three nephews and numerous great-nieces and great-nephews.

He is also survived by his friend and most faithful companion, Duncan, his chocolate Labrador retriever.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Campbell-Aman Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
