Oakland, IA. Former longtime resident of Omaha. Graduate Dana College. Preceded in death by father, Richard D. "Coach" Harris; and brother, Harlan. Survived by mother, Janice; brothers, Jan (Susan), and Scott; nieces; nephews; and cousins.

Private Family Interment in Oaklawn Cemetery. Memorial to Oakland United Methodist Church.

Richard Dana Harris, the son of Richard Davis and Janice I. (Glass) Harris, was born July 9, 1949, in Lincoln, NE. He died September 16, 2021, at Avoca Specialty Care in Avoca, IA, at the age of 72 years, 2 months, and 7 days.

Dana attended school in Oakland, graduating from Oakland High School with the class of 1967. After graduating, he attended Dana College in Blair, NE. He graduated from Dana in 1971, with Bachelor of Science degrees in Business and Criminal Justice. Dana then worked for Guard Mark Securities and Baker Associates as a security manager and investigator. In 1985, Dana began his own security and investigation company, The Harris Group Corp. Dana's business served corporations and governmental agencies throughout the United States and multiple foreign countries. Upon his retirement in 2008, Dana moved back to Oakland to be closer to his family.

Dana was a member of the Oakland United Methodist Church. He was an avid golfer and had played many of the marque courses around the United States. His low score on the Oakland Golf Course was a 29 and was witnessed by his two playing partners. Dana enjoyed socializing and eating out at several of his favorite restaurants around Omaha. These included The V.I.P. Club, Gorats, and The Drover.

Dana prided himself on staying well-read and versed on regional, national, and world affairs. Whatever was in the Omaha World Herald the last fifty years, he read!

Dana always found great joy in giving to others. His unconditional love and generosity are attributes he shared with family and many others. Even though Dana had never married or had children, he was a family man. He showed all his love in many ways.

Dana is preceded in death by his father Richard "Coach" Harris, and his brother Harlan.

He is survived by his mother Janice Harris of Oakland; his brothers Scott Harris of Richmond, VA, and Jan Harris and wife Susan of Oakland; eight nieces and nephews; 10 great nieces and nephews; many cousins; and other relatives and friends.

A private family graveside will be held at Oaklawn Cemetery. Memorials may be donated to the Oakland United Methodist Church. Rieken Vieth Funeral Home in Oakland is assisting the family.
