Mrs. Nels Larson Died at Oakland

Funeral services for Mrs. Harriet U. Larson of Lyons, who died April 2, 1963, in the Oakland Memorial Rest Home, at the age of 93 years, 5 months and 13 days, were held April 4 at 2 p.m. at the Piper Chapel in Lyons. The Rev. Thomas Holcombe officiated.

Harriet U. Anderson was born October 19, 1869 to Hans Christian and Hansena Maria Anderson, who migrated from Denmark and homesteaded near Basford. She was one of 14 children born in a log cabin.

When she was seven years old her family moved to Washington County, near Admah, Nebr. Later her father moved back to the Basford community.

When she was 16, she went to keep house for an uncle, Jacob Anderson, where she survived the great blizzard of 1888. On the Jacob Anderson homestead she met and married Nels P. Larson, who had also migrated from Denmark, and was employed by Mr. Anderson. They were married on February 28, 1888, in Tekamah and then moved to a farm near the Bacon school.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, who died in 1940. Survivors include her three children; Mrs. Joe A. Swanson (Laura) of North Platte, Hans Christian Larson of Decatur, and William Martin Larson of Lyons; two brothers, Edward and William Anderson of Wheatland, Wyo; three sisters, Sophia Cox and Mrs. Lillie Cox of Sacramento, Calif. And Carrie Williamsen of Wray, Colo.; nine grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandchild.
