Donald C. Andersen, age 81 of Blair, passed away October 11, 2021. Funeral arrangements include a public visitation at Campbell-Aman funeral home beginning at 1pm on Thursday, October 14, with family receiving friends from 6-8pm. Funeral services will be held Friday, October 15, at 10:30am at First Lutheran Church in Blair. Following the funeral there will be a graveside service, and then a luncheon at First Lutheran.

Don was born on June 22, 1940, in Blair, Nebraska, the son of Walter and Margaret Andersen. Don grew up in Blair, attended Brewster Rural School, and graduated from Blair High School in 1957. He then attended Morningside College where he met the love of his life, Mardell. The couple was married September 25, 1960, and of that marriage two children were born: Pam and Paul. The couple lived and worked on the family farm west of Blair. In their free time, Don and Mardell enjoyed playing in a life-long card club with close friends.

Don was an engaging storyteller, and while his stories made his listeners laugh as though they were part of the story, they usually ended in a life lesson. Don had a love for the history of his family farm and surrounding area. He took great pride in receiving the Pioneer Farm Family Award which recognizes family-owned farms operated over 100 years. He enjoyed collecting agricultural equipment miniatures, especially those connected with farming. Don was an avid hunter and fisherman, making numerous trips with friends and family; Deer and coyote hunting were among his favorites especially when his kids would ride along. Don absolutely loved attending his kids and grandkids events; he never missed one, regardless of the weather or distance. Don was a friend and mentor to many, had the biggest heart, and the strength of a giant.

Don was preceded in death by his wife Mardell and his parents Walter and Margaret (Linden) Andersen.

Don is survived by his children: Pam (Daniel) Santos, and Paul (Mariann) Andersen; grandchildren: Taylor (Afsaneh) Santos, Mackenzie Santos; Brittney (David) Petersen, Derek (JoAnna Metzler) Andersen, Jakob Andersen. Great-granddaughter Claire Petersen. Sister-in-law Madonna (Dave) Sappenfield.

Memorials may be directed to the family for later designation.
