Debra K. Schafer, age 66, of Nickerson, passed away Thursday, November 17, 2021, at Methodist Fremont Health.

Deb was born on September 4, 1955, in Fremont, to Edward and Elaine (Baker) Luther. Deb attended and graduated from Fremont High School. Following high school Deb worked as a secretary at the United Methodist Church in Fremont, as well as St. Paul's Lutheran Church outside of Arlington. Deb worked as a co-owner of a Children's Clothing Store in Fremont before working at Lutheran Family Services and Pathfinder Support Services. Deb married Harold Schafer on November 3, 1979, at the United Methodist Church in Fremont. Deb and Harold resided on an acreage north of Arlington, before moving to Harold's family homeplace. On November 8, 1988, Deb and Harold were blessed with their son, Chad.

Deb enjoyed making quilts and going on quilting retreats. She also enjoyed spending time with her family and friends, as well as her dogs.

Debs generous and caring spirit will be sorely missed.

Deb is preceded in death by her parents, sister Charlotte Young. She is survived by her husband of 42 years, Harold, son Chad Schafer of Nickerson, brothers Bill Luther of Laramie, Wyoming, Gary (Marilyn) Luther of Loveland, Colorado, sister-in-laws Carolyn (Dean) Maurer of Fremont, Linda and Marlene Schafer of Arlington, nieces, nephews, family and friends, and her beloved puppy Ellie.

Visitation will be held Monday, November 29, 2021, at Dugan Funeral Chapel from 2-7PM with family present from 5-7PM.

Memorial Service will be held Tuesday, November 30, 2021, at 10:30AM at Dugan Funeral Chapel in Fremont. Pastor Rick Kanoy officiating. Memorial service will be livestreamed please find link at www.duganchapel.com under Deb's obituary tab. Private family inurnment will take place at the St. Paul's Lutheran Cemetery.
