Maria Teresa Hammang

May 29th, 1932 - October 29, 2021

Maria Teresa (Bolaños Canino) Hammang, age 89 of Fremont, NE went to her eternal home on October 29, 2021 at Shalimar Gardens.

Maria was born May 29th, 1932 in the Canary Islands to Sinforiano and Dolares (Canino Suarez) Bolaños Perez. She grew up at Santa Maria deGuia, Canary Islands. While living there, Maria attended elementary school and graduated from high school. She then received nurses training, graduated, and became a nurse.

She met her husband Warren when he was traveling to work in Morocco, near the Canary Islands for work. Mutual friends of Warren and Maria's set them up on a blind date and it was love at first sight. They later married on May 11th, 1961 in Las Palmas, Canary Islands.

She worked as a nurse in Canary Islands, later moving with her husband Warren to the United States and making their home in Arlington, NE. After moving to Nebraska, she worked as a nurse at the Dodge County Hospital Annex in Fremont, NE.

Maria loved caring for people; she took care of many people in their homes, which she treated like her family. Once settled in Arlington, Maria and her husband were blessed with two sons, Sammy and Albert.

Maria was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church in Fremont and loved singing in the choir with her beautiful soprano voice; she was also a member of the Arlington VFW Auxiliary. She loved birds, flowers, and gardening. She loved her beautiful magnolia tree that she cared for at her home in Arlington. She loved people; making friends everywhere she went. Her smile was contagious and loved singing to her grandsons, and her Shalimar family. Her greatest joy was having her family around her and spending time with grandsons, being crazy and making them laugh!

She is survived by her son, Albert (Angela) Hammang, grandsons, Evan and Luke all of Arlington.; sisters, Tata Bolaños Canino and Carmen Victoria Bolaños Canino and many nieces and nephews, all of the Canary Islands; special friends Karen Hilgenkamp of Arlington and Nanette Missel of Fremont.
