Elyda Belle Kennedy Allely, 92, of Blair, died Wednesday, May 19, 1999, at Blair Memorial Community Hospital.

Services were Saturday, May 22, at United Methodist Church in Tekamah.

Burial was in the Tekamah Cemetery.

Casket bearers were Kimberly S. Allely, Eric Allely, Craig Allely, Rebecca O'Hearne, Zachary Allely, Magdalene Allely, Brenda Allely, Jan Harris, Steven Allely, Susan HEard, David Bagby, Richard Bagby, Jeffrey Bagby and Kathleen Bagby.

Elyda Belle Kennedy Allely was the youngest of nine children. She was born on Jan. 4, 1907, to John G. and Lida (Gortner) Kennedy on the family homestead near Page, in Holt County.

She graduated from Page High School in 1923 and earned a bachelor of arts degree from Nebraska Wesleyan University in Lincoln.

While attending Wesleyan, she met George F. Allely. They were married June 17, 1931, by the chancellor of the university, the Rev. Schrekengast, in his home in Lincoln.

In 1931, they moved to Curtis, where she and her husband opened his first dental practice.

In 1938, they moved their three small children, Donald, John and Carole to Tekamah to open a new dental practice.

Their youngest daughter, Genevieve "Genie" was born in Tekamah.

In 1995, Elyda moved to Crowell Memorial Home in Blair to be near her daughter, Carole.

She was a lifelong member of the United Methodist Church. She served as a youth leader and for many years in various offices in the United Methodist Women, including president of the local level and treasurer on the district level.

She was an avid gardener, growing flowers and also fruits and vegetables for canning.

She enjoyed making many May baskets, school costumes and dolls.

She is survived by her daughter, Carole Bagby and family of Blair; daughter-in-law, Shirley Allely and family of Elkhorn; and daughter-in-law, Joyce Allely and family of Greeley, Colo.; 14 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; eight brothers and sisters; husband, George; sons, Donald and John; and daughter, Genevieve.

Memorials are suggested to the Tekamah-Herman Public School Foundation marked for the Allely Family Memorial Medical Scholarship or donors choice.

Hamel-Peck-Pelan Funeral Home in Tekamah was in charge of arrangements.
