A Funeral Service for Dorothy I. “Dottie” Paulsen will be held on Wednesday, January 12, 2022, at 10:30 a.m. at the Bethel Lutheran Church in Holdrege, Nebraska with Pastor Jan Gluth King officiating. A Graveside Service will be held on Thursday, January 13, 2022, at 1:00 p.m. at the Blair Cemetery in Blair, Nebraska.

Dorothy Irene “Dottie” Paulsen, 87 years of age, of Holdrege, passed away on Monday, January 3, 2022, at Providence Place in Fremont, Nebraska. Dottie was born in Edison, Nebraska, on January 17, 1934, the third of five children, born to Calvin James and Dorothy Berniece (Breining) Beedle. Shortly after birth, she was baptized into the Lutheran faith and remained a dedicated Christian throughout her life. She received her education from Arapahoe Public Schools, graduating with the class of 1952. Dottie then pursued higher education at Kearney State College for 2 years.

On September 12, 1954, she was united in marriage to the love of her life, Marvin LeRoy Paulsen. Marvin and Dottie raised four children and lived in Holdrege most of their married lives, except for an eight year stay in Lakewood, Colorado. While in Colorado, Dottie was a den mother for the Cub Scouts and started the first mentally challenged Cub Scout group in the late 1960’s. She loved spending time keeping score during her boy’s baseball games. Besides being a caretaker for her family, Dottie was employed in medical records at the Brewster Clinic and then Holdrege Family Medicine. During retirement, the couple began to winter in Mesa, Arizona, and continued that lifestyle for more than 40 years. On September 24, 2021, she was preceded in death by Marvin.

Dottie enjoyed spending time in Arizona, where her and Marv attended Cub baseball games every year. She was an avid golfer, and the couple enjoyed many years golfing together. Dottie was a faithful member of the Bethel Lutheran Church in Holdrege. She will be remembered for her generous, loving heart; her contagious smile; and her love for Jesus. Above all, Dottie has left a tremendous legacy of love to her family and friends.

Besides her parents and husband, Dottie was preceded in death by; two brothers: Gerald Beedle and his wife, Elaine; and Derald Beedle and his wife, Maxine; and one sister, Shirley Englund and her husband, Paul.

Dottie leaves to celebrate her life; two sons: Gregg Paulsen and his wife, Kathy of Gilbert, Arizona; and Jeffrey Paulsen and his wife, Teri of Lavon, Texas; two daughters: Kristen Columbus and her husband, James of Gretna, Nebraska; and Patricia Tilson and her husband, Lincoln of Blair; seven grandchildren: Jody Garrett; Kelsey Laulainen; Alyssa Bargren; Amanda Brock; Erik Paulsen; Megan Thomson; and Zane Tilson; eight great-grandchildren: one brother, Dale Beedle and his wife, Judy of Arapahoe, Nebraska; two brothers-in-law: Richard Paulsen of Gering, Nebraska; and Bruce Mellberg of Lincoln, Nebraska; and a host of nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends.

A visitation will be held on Tuesday, January 11, 2022 from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. with family greeting friends from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the Nelson-Bauer Funeral Home in Holdrege.

A memorial has been established in Dottie’s honor, and kindly suggested to the Bethel Lutheran Church.
