Richard Lee Gerdes Sr., age 75 of Omaha, passed away Jan. 3, 2022. Graveside services will be held Saturday, Jan. 15, 2022, at 11 a.m. at the Fort Calhoun Cemetery. Visitation will be held Friday from 5-8 p.m. at Campbell Aman Funeral Home in Blair.

Dick was born June 28, 1946, the son of Lee and Beulah Gerdes. He graduated from Wauneta High School in Wauneta with the class of 1964. Dick then attended the University of Nebraska, earning a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering. Following his college graduation, Dick started work for Kiewit, where he worked for 40 years, working all over the United States and abroad. Over the years, Dick enjoyed fly fishing, Nebraska and Chiefs football and spending time with family and friends. He was always a very proud father and grandfather. Dick was united in marriage to his wife Shelia on June 14, 1985.

He is survived by his son J.R. (Kim) Gerdes; stepsons: Phil (Linda) Gravert and Dean Gravert; brother Stanley Gerdes; grandchildren: Denton, Waylon and Rowdy; and step-grandchildren: P.J. (Megan) Gravert and Jessica Gravert.

He was preceded in death by his wife Sheila Gerdes and his parents.

Richard’s High School Graduation Announcement: Richard Gerdes is a green-eyed, brown-haired lad of 17—soon to be 18, June 28. Richard’s plans are to work this summer and attend the University of Nebraska to help him attain his life ambition of becoming a Mechanical Engineer. His most memorable event was June 19, 1963. He dislikes people who think they are better than everybody else. His hobby is hunting and he likes French fried shrimp. “Are you griping or complaining?” is his favorite saying and gold is his favorite color. “Smoke Gets In Your Eyes” is his favorite song. Dwight and Terry are his favorite singers (a new singing group??) His favorite subject is Trigonometry.
