He was elected to the Washington County Board of Supervisors for eight years, three years as Chairman. He was appointed by Governor Thone to the newly formed Nebraska Development Finance Fund Board in 1985. He also served on the Good Shepherd Home Board and the Memorial Community Hospital Board for over ten years. He was President of the Hospital Authority Board and Treasurer of the Hospital Foundation Board. He was active in the Washington County Recycling Program for many years. He traveled extensively with Opal, who directed the Washington County Bank Heritage Club, until her retirement in 2004.
