Johnnie Vertz (there is a John Vertz from 1893 on the web site, but this one is for a 10 yr. old not an old man)

The body of ten year old Johnnie Vertz whose drowning in the river was mentioned last week, was found on Thursday just below the R. R. bridge, lodged on a trot line set for fish. Two ladies crossing the bridge saw it and it was soon rescued from the water. John McKeen paid the reward of $25 offered by him for its recovery, to the lady who first saw it, and she kindly donated it to Mrs. Vertz to pay the funeral expenses. The boy was buried Friday, Rev. Potter officiating.
