15 Month Old Child of Mr. and Mrs. Herman Hilgenkamp

Word reaches us of the bad accident at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Herman Hilgenkamp on Tuesday evening last , which has cast a cloud of sorrow over the entire community. It seems that Mrs. Hilgenkamp was alone at home with her little 15-months old child. The child was crawling and playing about the yard, and in some manner fell into an open cistern and was drowned. The mother just got out of the house in time to see the little one topple over and go down, and her wild and agonizing shrieks soon brought Mr. Carl Vogt, who was some distance away, to the scene, but the child was beyond all human help before he arrived. The mother is prostrated with grief, and the family and friends have the sympathy of all in their sad affliction. The pleasant home of Mr. Hilgenkamp is about three miles north of Arlington, and we are truly sorry that such dire affliction is visited upon them. The cistern was almost a new one and was covered over with boards, which were rooted on by shoats that were running loose. The funeral occurred on Wednesday and was very largely attended.
