Obituary

Death has rudely entered the home of a friend, and plucked one of the fairest of earthly buds. Mr. and Mrs. John McQuarrie were suddenly, almost without warning, called to mourn the loss of their household cherub, little Hazel, who was born May 20, 1891, and died Nov. 18, 1894, lacking two days of being three vears and a half old.

Consolation may not come to any who shall lose a near and dear one, but how harder is the blow to bear when the fairest and sweetest, the pride and sunlight of the family shall be taken, when the music of its innocent prattle, the busy hands and toddling feet of an idolized little one are suddenly stilled in death, when the hearts of loved ones are crushed as despairing love yields up its last hope, when the last flickering ray of the light of life eludes its frail casket of clay and the mantle of mourning transforms a happy home so recently rich in the sunshine of happiness into the gloom and darkness of the house of death

Hazel Isabelle McQuarrie was among the very brightest, most lovable little ones of her age, and though she was slightly ailing a few days before, up to Saturday nothing serious was anticipated. That day she was taken severely with croup and ere her danger was realized she was beyond help. Though everything possible was done she died Sunday afternoon. Funeral services were held at the family residence Monday afternoon conducted by Rev. Geo, P. Beard, pastor of the Presbyterian church, and were attended by numerous sorrowing, sympathetic friends of the family. Those who have fortunately never been called upon to lay their fondest treasure in the grave can hardly conceive the sense of utter loneliness that pervades a home thus bereft, and the heartfelt sympathy of their many friends will go out unsparingly to Mr. and Mrs. McQuarrie in this their hour of affliction.
