15 Dec., 1892 - The Pilot - Gertie Lee Mundorf

Gertie Lee, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. H. E. Mundort of Fletcher was born in St. Charles Co., Mo., March 5, 1877, and died on Saturday morning at 6:30 o’clock, Dec. 10, 1892, of typhoid fever, aged 15 years, 9 months and 5 days.

Thus a young life has gone out in the bloom of womanhood, but it is not lost as she was converted and baptized as a member of the New England Baptist church Nov. 25th, 1888, since living a Christian life, always ready to help when help was needed and a friend to all.

She was attended in her last illness by Dr. J. McConaha of Fletcher and all that medical aid could do for her was done. She was a lovely singer and the night before she died tried to sing, but the chill of death made it impossible to distinguish the song. She was a member of the I.O.G.T. of New England and brothers of fellowship acted as pallbearers, carrying the casket from the house to the church where after a beautiful sermon by Rev. Gray, assisted by Rev. Patrick and a choir of G.T.s, her remains were laid to rest in the New England cemetery. Beside a multitude of friends and relatives to mourn her departure, she leaves her father and mother, two brothers at home and an only sister, Mrs. James Patrick. But they sorrow not even as those that have no hope for do they not know she is:

Safe in the arms of Jesus
Through Eternity to come,
For in death’s dark hour she whispered,
“Mamma almost home.”

The sun lit up the eastern sky
With the auroral light;
But Gertie had passed to the land
Where there is no more night

ONE OF HER FRIENDS.
