Thursday, January 30, 1896 - The Pilot - Orson Hopkins

Orson Hopkins, who resides at Herman and who had been employed by the F. E. & M. V. railroad company as well inspector met a sudden death in this city last Sunday afternoon.

He started down into the well just east of the passenger depot to make some observation, when the ladder broke, letting him fall a distance of about thirty feet. Here he evidently struck the back of his head on the platform and in his struggle fell down through the opening into the water, where he was found dead about fifteen minutes later.

Mr. Hopkins was a single man of about forty years of age and was very well known throughout Washington county. The funeral services occurred last Tuesday in the Methodist church at Herman, Rev. Geo. Main, of this place, officiating.
