December 19, 1895- The Pilot- Fred Schenk

At his home about four miles west of this city, Tuesday evening, Dec. 12, of congestion of the lungs, Fred Schenk, aged 54 years.

Deceased has been a citizen of this town and county for some years past, and was well known, industrious and highly respected. He was a shoemaker by profession and was formerly in the Ryan shoe store. Later he worked with Mr. Kay at odd times when not too busy on the farm. He was sick but a few days. Last Thursday he went to Omaha and returning on the train got off and walked home ate his supper and went to bed apparently in the best of health. Friday morning he failed to respond to a call to breakfast, and on investigation was found senseless and rigid. Physicians were at once summoned and he later became limp but still senseless. Later he partly recovered his mental faculties, but lay most of the time until death relieved him in a comatose condition. He leaves a family consisting of his wife and four or five grownup children. He carried $2000 policy in the Modern Woodmen of America, and will be buried at one o’clock today under the auspices of that order.
