Joseph Constant Cachelin

AN OLD SETTLER GONE

C. Cachelin died at his home in DeSoto Township last Tuesday, of dropsy, after an illness of about three months, at the advanced age of eighty-two years. Mr. Cachelin came first to DeSoto in 1855 and in 1856 brought his family to Nebraska and settled on his DeSoto farm where he has since resided. His wife has been dead about sixteen years and he also has two sons dead. One died at their home and the other died at the home for the incurables at Hastings.

There are three sons and one daughter, surviving members of the family. The daughter is Mrs. Chas. Perky, who resides at Wahoo, Nebr. His son George now resides on the DeSoto farm where the father has made his home since the death of his wife. Another son Urbin also resides in DeSoto Township and Ed lives at Spear Fish S.D.

The funeral services occur this morning at ten o’clock at the family residence and will be conducted by Rev. Geo. Main, and the remains will be interred in the DeSoto cemetery.

Mr. Cachelin is among the oldest settlers of Washington County and is well know by nearly everybody residing hereabouts. His life has been such as to gain the admiration and respect of all who knew him and it will be with the deepest regrets that they learn of his death. The Pilot joins the numerous friends in extending sympathy to the bereaved family.
