Teen Killed in Crash Was Always There to listen

Jared Borsh of Omaha will be remembered as an outgoing youth who was affectionate with his family and liked to make his friends laugh. The 17 year-old was killed in a two-vehicle collision on Sunday, March 10, north of Blair on Highway 75.

Jared attended Blair High School through the 10th grade, and was a junior at Omaha North High School. Like many teenage boys, he enjoyed skateboarding, playing video games, and hanging out with his friends. He also enjoyed drawing and sketching.

But, Jared was also a good listener, and readily showed his affection, his family notes. His mother, Jackie Heinssen of Blair, said she and Jared would often sit together and talk.

"He was always there to listen," she said. "He was never afraid to say he loved you, and always made sure to give hugs and kisses."

"He was friendly," Jackie said, "People were drawn to him."

His grandmother, Betty Heinssen of Blair, said Jared was a talented artist, and enjoyed drawing. "He could draw almost anything." she said. Betty described Jared as a likeable youth, who was happy and outgoing. She said Jared always spent holidays, like Christmas and his birthdays, with his grandparents in Blair.

"He always had hugs for us," she said. "He always had a smile for the camera; I took a lot of pictures of him."

"He was 17," Jackie said, "A lot of kids that age avoid their grandparents. He'd always walk up and hug them. He was such a loving kid." She also said that Jared was close to his siblings. "Freddy (his little brother) said he's really going to miss his 'friend', Jared." Jackie said.

Funeral services for Jared will be held at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, March 21, at First Lutheran Church in Blair.
