16 Apr., 1891 - The Pilot - Asa Lorenzo Weldon - Civil War Veteran

WELDON - At his home in Blair Sunday morning, April 12th, 1891, of dropsy of the heart, Asa Lorenzo Weldon, in the 48th year of his age.

A. L. Weldon was born in September, 1843, at Barrington, Ill. On Sept. 9th, 1861, he enlisted in Co. L. 8th Ill. Cav. and re-enlisted in November, 1863, earning an honorable discharge which he received at Benton Barracks, Mo., on July 17, 1865, having served almost four years. For some years he has been a citizen of Blair, and for some months past he has been under medical treatment for dropsy of the heart. His case was not, however, considered serious, and Saturday evening he went to bed in his apparent ordinary condition. There was no struggle nor alarm heard by the family during the night, but in the morning he was found cold and stiff, having apparently died without warning to himself. He leaves a wife ad four children, two daughters about grown up and two boys respectively 7 and 9 years.

The funeral was from the family residence on Tuesday afternoon under the auspices of the G.A.R. and services were conducted by Rev. Mrs. Hillas.
